What would the world look like if there was no such thing as an illness? Thousands of people each and every day would be saved. Illnesses destroy families all across the globe. In the articles ââ¬Å"Parkinsonââ¬â¢s Alleyâ⬠by Joy Horowitz, and ââ¬Å"Topic of Cancerâ⬠by Christopher Hitchens, the authors explain the fact that the causes for cancer and Parkinsonââ¬â¢s disease are not proven to be known. Joy Horowitz also points out; more and more research is being done each day to better the understanding of these terrible diseases. Although Parkinsonââ¬â¢s disease and cancer are completely different diseases, they are astonishingly similar. Illnesses like cancer and Parkinsonââ¬â¢s disease directly or indirectly affect everyoneââ¬â¢s life. This disease slowly eats away memories from the recent and distant past. The longer one lives, the worse the problems get. As the life of a Parkinsonââ¬â¢s patient goes on, the simplest things are going to get harder and harder. Putting on and tying shoes, a task that used to take 30 seconds, is now going to take up to five minutes. Remembering the names of family and friends is going to become a tiresome endeavor. Parkinsonââ¬â¢s suffers could even have a difficult time remembering their own past. Cancer and Parkinsonââ¬â¢s disease are similar in many ways. The symptoms of the patients can be quite indistinguishable. Both damage the bodyââ¬â¢s cells. Also, symptoms worsen as time passes. Parkinsonââ¬â¢s and Cancer both cause damage to the brain.
